Nigerian Presidency Reveals Secret to Freeing 38 Kidnapped Church Worshippers
The Nigerian Presidency has shed light on the successful rescue operation of 38 church worshippers kidnapped from Eruku, Kwara State. According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the military directly contacted the bandits to secure the release of the victims
The security agencies established contact with the kidnappers and demanded the immediate release of the victims. The bandits complied, reportedly understanding the consequences of defying government orders. Onanuga revealed that the security agencies have a way of tracking armed groups but often exercise restraint to avoid harming abducted civilians who are frequently used as human shields

The government’s priority was to secure the safe return of all abducted persons. Onanuga emphasized that the objective of getting the people freed had been achieved, and the next level of action is for the security agencies. The Presidency has not disclosed operational details or whether further action is underway against the kidnappers
The Eruku attack has intensified public concern over rising insecurity in Kwara South and neighboring states. There are renewed calls for stronger intelligence operations and community protection measures to prevent future incidents
The successful rescue of the 38 church worshippers is a welcome relief to the families and the community. However, the incident highlights the need for sustained efforts to address the security challenges in the region. As the government and security agencies continue to work towards ensuring the safety of citizens, it is essential to prioritize intelligence gathering and community protection measures.
