President Tinubu Orders Police Withdrawal from VIP Duties: What You Need to Know

In a significant move to bolster security across Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate withdrawal of police officers assigned to protect Very Important Persons (VIPs) nationwide. This decision was announced by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga following a high-level security meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The President’s directive aims to reposition the Nigeria Police Force for improved national coverage and rapid response capability. With many remote areas having limited police presence, the move seeks to strengthen community policing and enhance security nationwide

VIPs requiring armed protection will now need to request personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), rather than relying on police officers. This shift is expected to free up thousands of trained police operatives for redeployment to patrols, investigations, and rapid-response units

Recruitment of Additional Police Officers:President Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 30,000 additional police officers to boost police presence in all communities.
Collaboration with State Governments: The federal government will partner with state governments to upgrade police training facilities nationwide.
Community Policing:The move is part of a broader push to strengthen frontline policing, improve inter-agency cooperation, and enhance intelligence-driven operations

What are your thoughts on this development? Do you think it will improve security in Nigeria? How do you think VIPs will adapt to the new security arrangement?
