Empowering Farmers through Carbon Credits: NALDA’s Innovative Initiative
The National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) has launched a groundbreaking initiative to produce high-integrity carbon credits across its network of farm estates. This innovative program aims to boost rural prosperity and strengthen Nigeria’s transition toward a middle-income economy.

– NALDA will provide farmers with five hectares of land to earn a steady income and benefit from carbon credits derived from structured reforestation and tree planting.
– The farm estates will be fully mechanized agricultural settlements equipped with roads, irrigation systems, processing hubs, energy systems, and perimeter fencing lined with climate-resilient trees.
– The initiative aims to move Nigerians from a low-income bracket to a true middle-class economy by combining agricultural productivity with carbon-credit earnings.
NALDA has unveiled its Plantation Carbon Roadmap, which places over 20,000 hectares of restored and rehabilitated plantations under strict Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification procedures. This ensures transparency and credibility in the global voluntary carbon market
The initiative will not only empower farmers but also contribute to Nigeria’s climate goals. By adopting sustainable agricultural practices and generating carbon credits, farmers can become independent, prosperous, and globally competitive.
