Insecurity in Nigeria: A Desperate Attempt to Shift Blame
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized the Federal Government for attributing recent terror attacks in Kebbi and Kwara States to remarks made by United States President Donald Trump. The party described this claim as a “desperate attempt” by the current administration to dodge accountability amid worsening insecurity
According to Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC National Publicity Secretary, the comments credited to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, amount to a “shameful abdication of responsibility.” Abdullahi argued that the APC-led Federal Government’s security failures are a result of its own incompetence, not Trump’s tweets
The ADC noted that Nigerians have endured serious insecurity under the APC, with the situation deteriorating “with each passing year.” The party emphasized that those killing Nigerians did not need to be instigated by Trump, as they were already actively encouraged by a government that consistently fails to act decisively to stop the carnage

The ADC urged the government to take responsibility for the security situation in Nigeria, rather than blaming foreign leaders. The party emphasized that Nigeria’s security woes are rooted in domestic failures, not foreign comments. Abdullahi argued that if Trump’s statement truly constituted a serious threat, the government should have provided a formal assessment and outlined mitigation measures
The ADC’s statement highlights the need for the Nigerian government to take ownership of its security challenges and develop effective solutions to address them. The party’s criticism of the government’s response to insecurity raises important questions about accountability and the need for decisive action to protect citizens
