Boko Haram Ambushes Nigerian Army Convoy, Abducts Brigadier-General
In a shocking and unprecedented attack, Boko Haram terrorists ambushed a Nigerian military convoy in Borno State, northeastern Nigeria, killing multiple soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). The insurgents, suspected to be Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters, reportedly abducted a serving Brigade Commander along with other military personnel.
The attack occurred late Friday night, with the attackers targeting the convoy in a coordinated strike that left a trail of casualties and panic in the region. The Nigerian Army has yet to release an official statement on the attack or confirm the fate of the abducted officer.
Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has condemned the renewed wave of terrorist attacks in parts of his constituency, describing the situation as “deeply worrisome” and unacceptable. He highlighted the vulnerability of remote communities, where four farmers were gruesomely murdered by Boko Haram insurgents while working on their farmlands.
The senator noted that the killings were not isolated incidents, with insurgents intensifying assaults across multiple communities. In recent days, a church and other infrastructure were set ablaze in Pemi, and there were reports of Boko Haram invasion in the Shikarkir community of Chibok local government area in Borno state.
Ndume criticized the inability of security operatives to consistently safeguard remote settlements, saying the absence of a sustained security presence has emboldened insurgents to carry out attacks without resistance. This incident marks a concerning escalation of violence in the region, with the Nigerian military facing significant challenges in maintaining security .
