ASUU Disputes Government Claim of N50 Billion Payment

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has denied receiving the N50 billion revitalization fund recently claimed by the Federal Government to have been released. According to ASUU, none of its demands have been met ahead of its National Executive Council meeting scheduled for November 8 and 9, 2025.

The union is demanding payment of:
– 3.5 months withheld salaries
– 25/35% wage award arrears
– Promotion arrears
– Unpaid salaries of some members

ASUU expressed frustration that despite assurances from senior government officials, the payment of these outstanding entitlements has not been made. Instead, the union receives “press releases” from the Minister of Education, which it describes as “misleading” .

The union also faulted the Minister of Education’s claim that N2.3 billion had been released to settle salary and promotion arrears, describing the amount as “grossly inadequate” and “almost embarrassing”. ASUU is urging the government to clearly state what fraction of the outstanding entitlements this amount is meant to settle .
