President Tinubu Decorates New Service Chiefs with New Ranks

In a ceremony held at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu decorated the newly appointed Service Chiefs with their new ranks. The decorated Service Chiefs include .
– General Olufemi Oluyede :Chief of Defence Staff
– Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu: Chief of Army Staff
– Vice Admiral Idi Abass: Chief of Naval Staff
– Air Marshal Kevin Aneke: Chief of Air Staff
– Lieutenant General Emmanuel Undiendey:  Chief of Defence Intelligence

The new Service Chiefs were appointed by President Tinubu in October 2025, following the dismissal of the previous Service Chiefs. Before the decoration ceremony, they were screened and confirmed by the Senate after a two-hour closed-door session. Senators questioned them on their plans to strengthen national security and reform the armed forces .

President Tinubu’s Charge to the New Service Chiefs

During the ceremony, President Tinubu charged the new Service Chiefs to deepen professionalism, vigilance, and unity within the Armed Forces. He emphasized the importance of teamwork and assured them of the government’s commitment to supporting them in their responsibilities .

The President also expressed his determination to solve the current economic challenges facing the country, stating that “we are committed to serving you and not to rule over you”. He urged the new Service Chiefs to uphold the values of honest service to the nation .

Significance of the Ceremony

The decoration ceremony marked a formal transition of command in the nation’s Armed Forces, symbolizing renewed leadership and a fresh drive toward strengthening Nigeria’s defence architecture. The ceremony was attended by top government officials, including the Vice President, Senate President, and Speaker of the House of Representatives .
