Massive crowds have gathered in cities and towns across the United States to participate in the “No Kings” protests, a movement sparked by concerns over President Donald Trump’s increasingly authoritarian regime. The demonstrations, organized in over 2,500 locations, have drawn millions of participants denouncing what they describe as a slide toward authoritarianism .
The protests have adopted yellow as a symbol of unity, representing hope, democracy, and the power of ordinary people to resist tyranny. Participants are wearing yellow clothing or bandanas, drawing inspiration from global movements for democracy and nonviolent resistance, such as the 2014 Hong Kong protests and Ukraine’s yellow ribbons used during the Russian occupation.
While major demonstrations are unfolding in cities like Washington, New York, Los Angeles, and Atlanta, smaller gatherings have appeared in local town squares and along highways. International solidarity events were also reported outside U.S. embassies in Berlin, Paris, Rome, and Stockholm, where demonstrators held placards condemning fascism and questioning President Trump’s commitment to democratic values.
Democratic leaders, including Representative Jim McGovern and Senator Adam Schiff, have expressed their support for the protests, emphasizing the importance of defending democracy and the right to peaceful protest. “We will not back down to Donald Trump—protest is what this country was founded on,” McGovern wrote on X.
