ASUU Accuses FG of Insincerity in Collective Bargaining

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has accused the Federal Government of being insincere in its approach to collective bargaining and addressing the welfare of academic staff in public universities. The union’s claim comes as it embarks on a two-week warning strike to protest the government’s failure to sign the renegotiated draft agreement reached by the Yayale Ahmed-led committee.

ASUU Chairman, University of Ibadan chapter, Dr. Adefemi Afolabi, stated that the Federal Government has taken the union for granted, adopting delay tactics and disregarding the principles of collective bargaining. The union had patiently waited for eight months for the government to sign the renegotiated agreement, but instead, a new committee was formed to restart the process.
