NANS to Stage Nationwide Protest Demanding Nnamdi Kanu’s Release
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced a nationwide protest scheduled for October 20, 2025, to demand the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). In a statement signed by NANS President, Comrade Atiku Isah, the students’ body called on all Nigerian students to participate in the protest, themed “Free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu”.
Protest Details
– Date: Monday, October 20, 2025
– Convergence Points: Students will assemble at designated points in each geopolitical zone before proceeding to Abuja for the nationwide demonstration.
– South West: Ekiti State
– South East: Enugu State
– South-South: Edo State
– North East: Bauchi State
– North West: Kano State
– North Central: Lokoja, Kogi State
– Transportation: Ten buses have been allocated to each zone to facilitate transportation of protesters.
NANS emphasized that the protest is part of their collective demand for justice, civil rights, and democratic accountability. The students’ body believes that freedom is achieved through struggle and remains committed to peaceful advocacy for what is right.
Nnamdi Kanu’s continued detention by the Nigerian government has remained a flashpoint of agitation, especially across the South East. Civil rights groups and Igbo socio-political organisations have renewed calls for Kanu’s unconditional release, following several court rulings declaring his detention illegal.
