Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial Adjourned to October 16 Due to Delayed Medical Report
The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to October 16, 2025. The adjournment was necessitated by the Nigerian Medical Association’s (NMA) inability to present its report on Kanu’s health status to the court .
Kanu is facing terrorism charges, and his trial has been ongoing since 2021. His lawyers have raised concerns about his deteriorating health while in detention, prompting the court to order a medical evaluation .
The NMA was tasked with assessing Kanu’s health and determining whether the medical facility at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters is adequate for his care. The report is also expected to determine whether Kanu is fit to stand trial. The medical board’s findings will play a crucial role in determining the next steps in the trial .
The prosecution counsel, Suraj S’aad, informed the court that the medical board had contacted them, stating that the report was not yet ready for presentation. The court granted a one-week adjournment to allow the NMA medical board to conclude its investigation .
The court has fixed October 16, 2025, for the submission of the medical report and to determine the next steps in the proceedings. The outcome of the trial is eagerly awaited, with many stakeholders closely watching the developments
