Private School Owners Seek Tax Relief and Better Teacher Welfare

The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Ogbomoso North Chapter, in Oyo State, has called on the government to address critical challenges facing private school owners and teachers. The association is seeking relief in areas of taxation, welfare, and access to financial support.

NAPPS Chairman, Wale Ojewumi, lamented the automatic 25% annual increase in personal income tax, which negatively impacts private school owners’ ability to reinvest in staff and infrastructure.
Ojewumi commended teachers for their dedication and hard work, emphasizing that their contributions to national development deserve greater recognition and support.
The association urged the government to provide financial support to private schools, particularly those in rural areas where public resources are scarce.

Ojewumi emphasized that private schools complement government efforts in expanding access to quality education, especially in areas where public resources are stretched thin. He noted that private schools are not competitors to public institutions but rather partners in providing education to all.

The NAPPS’ call for tax relief and better teacher welfare highlights the challenges faced by private school owners and teachers in Nigeria. By addressing these issues, the government can help ensure that private schools continue to provide quality education to millions of Nigerians .
