Empowering Igbo Youths in Aviation: A Pathway to Development

The South-East region of Nigeria is taking a significant step towards empowering its youths by encouraging them to explore opportunities in the aviation sector. This call to action was made during the South-East Aviation Summit and Face of Eastwing 2025 Competition, organized by the Eastwing Aviation Institute in Enugu.

The summit highlighted the vast potential of aviation to transform the fortunes of young Nigerians. With fewer than 10% of Igbo youths showing interest in aviation, there is a pressing need to raise awareness about the opportunities available in this field. Aviation today extends beyond flight operations, encompassing technology, logistics, and global trade, making it a vital sector for regional Competition was a highlight of the summit, showcasing the talents of young individuals in the aviation industry. Eighteen-year-old Ifechukwu Uyammadu emerged as the winner, receiving a full scholarship to study any aviation course of his choice at the Eastwing Aviation Institute. This gesture is seen as a symbol of new opportunities for South-East youths.

The Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, Samuel Asadu, emphasized the need for the South-East to excel in aviation training and careers. He urged governments, investors, and philanthropists to sponsor youths into the industry. The Deputy Provost of the Eastwing Aviation Institute, Segun Babalola, supported this call, highlighting the importance of aviation in driving regional development.
