President Bola Tinubu has expressed his strong support for Nigeria’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, calling it a “dream” that must become a reality. With no African nation having ever hosted the Games, Tinubu believes that bringing the event to Nigeria would send a powerful message about Africa’s importance to the future of the Commonwealth.
Hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games would demonstrate Africa’s vital role in the Commonwealth’s Tinubu urged the Commonwealth to embrace Africa’s potential and “complete the circle of unity”.
The President declared, “It’s time for Africa,” emphasizing the continent’s readiness to take center stage.
Hosting the Games would bring international attention to Nigeria and Africa, showcasing their capabilities and potential.
The event would promote sports development in the region, encouraging young athletes to participate in various sports.
Hosting the Games could also have economic benefits, attracting investments and boosting tourism.
Nigeria will present its final bid to the event’s evaluation committee, led by Shehu Dikko, President of the Nigeria Sports Commission (NSC), and Bukola Olopade, Director-General of the NSC.
The Games are a multi-sport event held every four years, featuring countries that are former territories of the United Kingdom.
