Nigeria Boosts Passport Production Capacity to 5,000 Daily with New Centralized System

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has significantly increased its daily passport production capacity from 300 to 5,000, following the launch of a new Centralised Passport Personalisation Centre in Abuja. Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, described this development as a major milestone in Nigeria’s 62-year history of passport issuance .The new centralized system enables NIS to process 4,500 to 5,000 passports daily within four to five hours of operation, a significant improvement from the old system’s capacity of 250-300 passports per day.
The Minister promised a two-week delivery time frame, but with the new system, they are pushing for a one-week delivery or even less.
The centralized system aligns Nigeria’s passport production with global standards, improving uniformity, efficiency, and integrity of Nigerian travel documents worldwide .The new system ensures higher quality, better control, and greater efficiency in passport production.
The automated system eliminates manual processes and backlogs, ensuring seamless and fast service delivery.
Nigeria’s migration to the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Public Key Directory enhances the authenticity and global credibility of Nigerian passports.
