SSANU and NASU Issue Seven-Day Strike Notice Over Unresolved Issues

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) have issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government over unresolved issues affecting non-academic staff in universities. The unions are demanding action on several key issues, including .
–  The unions claim that the distribution of these allowances was skewed, with university staff being shortchanged while those in inter-university centers were completely excluded.
– The unions are seeking payment of two months’ outstanding withheld salaries owed to their members.
–  The unions are demanding payment of arrears of salary increments owed to their members.
–  The unions claim that the renegotiation process has been delayed, and the Federal Government team has refused to engage with them despite fulfilling all justifications.

The SSANU and NASU had previously written to the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, on June 18, 2025, highlighting the urgent need for intervention in outstanding labor matters affecting their members. The Minister convened a meeting with the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of NASU and SSANU on July 4, 2025, aimed at addressing the issues raised. However, the unions claim that no concrete action has been taken since then .

If the Federal Government fails to address these issues within the seven-day ultimatum, SSANU and NASU members will embark on a series of legitimate industrial actions, including strikes, to press home their demands. The unions have warned that the strike will be “total, indefinite, and absolute” if their demands are not met .
