Contradicting Claims Surround President Tinubu’s Trip to France and UK
The Presidency has announced that President Bola Tinubu has embarked on a 10-day annual vacation to France and the UK, part of his 2025 annual leave schedule. However, human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has disputed this claim, asserting that the trip is actually for medical treatment in European hospitals .
This isn’t the first time Tinubu’s medical trips have sparked controversy. Before his inauguration on May 29, 2023, Tinubu traveled to France for medical consultations, prompting speculation about his health. Similar trips were reported in March and May 2023, with some questioning the transparency surrounding his health .
The Presidency maintains that Tinubu is on annual leave, using the time to reflect on his administration’s economic reforms. Senior Special Assistant to the President, Ibrahim Masari, has assured that Tinubu’s health is fine, citing the president’s ability to monitor assignments as proof .
Sowore claims to have predicted Tinubu’s trip, stating on Facebook that one of Nigeria’s leaders would soon be heading to a foreign hospital. He criticized Tinubu’s leadership, mentioning other governors in a post on Wednesday
The conflicting narratives surrounding Tinubu’s trip raise questions about transparency in the presidency. While the Presidency insists it’s an annual leave, Sowore’s assertions suggest otherwise. Only time will tell what the true purpose of this trip is .
