Morocco Makes History with Record Third CHAN Title

In a thrilling finale, Morocco secured a record third African Nations Championship (CHAN) title by defeating Madagascar 3-2 in a dramatic match. Oussama Lamlioui’s late strike sealed the win for the Atlas Lions, who have now matched their title wins from the 2018 and 2020 editions.

The match was filled with twists and turns, with Madagascar taking an early lead through Felicite Manohatsoa’s long-range strike. However, Youssef Mehri equalized for Morocco just before halftime, and Lamlioui put the Atlas Lions ahead. Substitute Toky Rakotondraibe drew Madagascar level again, but Lamlioui struck again with 10 minutes remaining to secure the win.

This victory marks another milestone in a remarkable year for Moroccan football. The country’s youth teams have won the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations and reached the final of the Under-20 tournament. Morocco is now gearing up to host the senior AFCON for the first time since 1988, with the tournament set to kick off on December 21.

Lamlioui was the star of the show, finishing as the tournament’s top scorer with six goals. His brace in the final cemented his place in Moroccan football history, and his team’s victory is a testament to their skill and determination.

What do you think about Morocco’s record third CHAN title? Will they continue their winning streak in the upcoming AFCON tournament?
