Nigeria Increases Passport Fees: What You Need to Know

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced an increase in the cost of obtaining a Nigerian Standard Passport, effective September 1, 2025. The new fees will apply only to applications made within Nigeria.

The revised fees are as follows:

– 32-page passport with 5-year validity: N100,000
– 64-page passport with 10-year validity: N200,000

However, the fees for Nigerians in the diaspora remain the same:

– 32-page passport with 5-year validity: $150
– 64-page passport with 10-year validity: $230

The NIS stated that the adjustment aims to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian passport while ensuring accessibility for citizens.

This is not the first time passport fees have been increased in Nigeria. In August 2024, the Federal Government approved an upward adjustment, which took effect from September 1, 2024. The fees were increased from N35,000 to N50,000 for the 32-page passport and from N70,000 to N100,000 for the 64-page passport.

What do you think about the latest increase in passport fees? Do you think it’s justified?
