NSIB Launches Investigation into Abuja-Kaduna Train Derailment

The Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has begun a thorough investigation into the Abuja-Kaduna train derailment that occurred on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. The incident, which happened shortly after the train departed Abuja around 11 a.m., left six passengers injured and triggered panic among those on board.

NSIB has dispatched a go-team to the site to collect evidence, liaise with stakeholders, and investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Bureau’s Director General, Alex Badeh Jr., has expressed sympathy for those affected and assured that the investigation will be transparent and independent.

Passengers on board the train described the scene as chaotic, with people scrambling to safety in fear and confusion. The Management of the Nigeria Railway Corporation has confirmed that six passengers sustained minor injuries and have since been treated.

As the investigation continues, the NSIB will work to ensure that the root cause of the derailment is uncovered and that recommendations are made to prevent similar incidents in the future. The safety and well-being of passengers remain the top priority.
