Osun Governor Urges President Tinubu to Release Withheld Local Council Funds
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to release the withheld local government allocations intended for the state without delay. The governor insists that the PDP-elected chairmen and councillors are the rightful occupants of the local government offices, following the February 2025 local government elections.
The governor’s plea comes after the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) demanded the immediate release of the withheld funds, citing a violation of the Constitution and disregard for the Rule of Law. The NBA’s letter, signed by President Afam Osigwe and General Secretary Mobolaji Ojibara, emphasized that the withholding of funds sets a dangerous precedent and weakens public confidence in democratic institutions.
Governor Adeleke affirmed that the local government chairpersons elected under the PDP are the lawful officeholders, following a court judgment that sacked the APC chairmen in 2022. He commended the Osun Council of Obas, NBA, and other lovers of justice for standing firm in demanding the release of the withheld funds.
The governor’s call for the release of funds is supported by the NBA’s conclusion that there is no legal justification for withholding the allocations. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the Federal Government will respond to the demands.
– Governor Adeleke urges President Tinubu to release withheld local council funds
– NBA demands immediate release of funds, citing constitutional violation
– PDP-elected chairmen and councillors affirmed as rightful occupants of local government offices
The release of the withheld funds would likely have a positive impact on the local government councils in Osun State, enabling them to function effectively and provide essential services to the people.
