University of Abuja Alumni Urges President Tinubu to Intervene in Land Revocation Crisis

The University of Abuja Alumni Association has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing land revocation threat facing the institution. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has been accused of attempting to revoke 7,000 hectares of land allocated to the university, sparking concerns about the future of the institution.

The University of Abuja was allocated 11,800 hectares of land in 1988 under the administration of former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida. The land was carefully planned to accommodate academic infrastructure, research facilities, agricultural programs, and future expansion.

The planned revocation of the university’s land would have severe implications, including:
Reducing the university’s land to 4,000 hectares would limit its capacity to accommodate the growing student population and frustrate its mandate of serving as a dual-mode institution.
The revocation would risk damaging Nigeria’s reputation in international education circles and jeopardizing valuable partnerships that benefit students and the nation.

The University of Abuja Alumni Association has urged President Tinubu, as the visitor of the university, to intervene and order Minister Wike to retrace his steps regarding the university land. The association is determined to fight for the future of Nigerian education and the integrity of the institution .

The University of Abuja Alumni Association’s call for intervention highlights the need for urgent action to protect the interests of the institution and its students. It remains to be seen how President Tinubu will respond to the situation, but one thing is clear: the future of the University of Abuja hangs in the balance.
