WAEC in Crisis: Glitches and Controversy Surround 2025 WASSCE Results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is facing a crisis after technical glitches were discovered in its result system for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The council has temporarily suspended access to its result checker portal while it works to resolve the issue .

According to WAEC, the technical issues were discovered during an internal review of the 2025 WASSCE results. The council has assured candidates that it is working diligently to resolve the matter with transparency and urgency .

The Nigeria Union of Teachers, the National Association of Parent-Teacher Associations of Nigeria, and the National Association of Nigerian Students have all reacted to the development. The National President of NAPTAN, Haruna Danjuma, commended WAEC for accepting responsibility but described the planned transition to full Computer-Based Testing for external exams as impracticable .

WAEC has apologized for the inconvenience and assured stakeholders that it is working to resolve the issue. The council has also defended its serialization method for certain subjects, citing best assessment practices .
