Tragedy Strikes Ghana: Defence and Environment Ministers Killed in Helicopter Crash

A devastating helicopter crash has claimed the lives of Ghana’s Defence Minister, Edward Omane Boamah, and Environment Minister, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed. The incident occurred on Wednesday when the helicopter carrying eight people went off the radar shortly after taking off from Accra.

– Edward Omane Boamah: Defence Minister and former Communications Minister
– Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed: Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology
– Alhaji Muniru Mohammed: Deputy National Security Coordinator and former Agriculture Minister
– Samuel Sarpong: Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress party

The helicopter was headed to Obuasi, northwest of Accra, when it lost contact. All on board were killed. The presidency has confirmed the incident and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.

The loss of these key ministers is a significant blow to Ghana’s leadership, particularly given the current security concerns in the region. President John Mahama has canceled his official activities for the day, and all flags will be flown at half-staff.
