The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to establish cattle breeding centres across the country’s six geopolitical zones. This initiative aims to modernize livestock production, improve food security, and reduce conflicts between herders and farmers.

The cattle breeding centres will serve as modern livestock hubs, providing a structured and economically beneficial system for livestock rearing. The objectives of this initiative include:

– Reducing conflicts between herders and farmers
– Improving meat and dairy production
– Boosting Nigeria’s food sufficiency drive

Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, emphasized the need for synergy and collaboration among relevant ministries, including agriculture, environment, water resources, livestock development, and the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy. This collaboration will be crucial in delivering on the Renewed Hope Agenda and achieving the goals of the cattle breeding centres.

The government recognizes that the traditional livestock rearing system in Nigeria is outdated and unsustainable. The establishment of cattle breeding centres is a step towards modernizing livestock production and improving the livelihoods of herders and farmers.

The establishment of cattle breeding centres is a significant initiative that can improve food security, reduce conflicts, and boost the livelihoods of herders and farmers.
