Former President Muhammadu Buhari Laid to Rest in Katsina State
July 15, 2025 – National Update
The nation bids farewell to one of its most prominent leaders, as the body of former President Muhammadu Buhari was flown into Katsina State for final burial rites.
The late president, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in a London hospital after a prolonged illness, was laid to rest today in his hometown of Daura. The solemn occasion drew national attention and significant dignitary presence.
President Bola Tinubu arrived in Katsina earlier today to attend the burial, joining a host of political figures and high-ranking officials. Also in attendance was a distinguished delegation from the Republic of Niger, who flew into Nigeria Tuesday morning to pay their respects to the late statesman.
Among the many who gathered to honor Buhari’s legacy was former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who confirmed his arrival via a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “I just arrived in Daura for the interment of former President Muhammadu Buhari.”
Reports indicate that preparations for the burial had been underway for days, with the gravesite in Daura readied in anticipation of the late president’s return.
Buhari’s body was transported by a Nigerian Air Force aircraft, accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and other top government officials.
The burial marks the end of an era for a man who served Nigeria both as a military leader and as a democratically elected president. As Daura receives its most revered son for the final time, Nigerians reflect on his decades-long influence on the country’s political landscape.
