NNPCL Boss Bayo Ojulari Snubs Senate Committee Again
The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, has failed to appear before the Senate Committee on Public Accounts for the second time, despite a 10-day ultimatum. The committee had summoned Ojulari to address queries over unaccounted funds totaling ₦200 trillion.
The lawmakers described Ojulari’s continued absence as a direct affront to the authority of the National Assembly and a breach of its oversight responsibilities. Committee Chair Aliyu Wadada warned that the Senate would not tolerate further disregard and vowed to issue a new date for the NNPCL GCEO to appear in person . .Ojulari’s absence is significant because the Senate Committee on Public Accounts has the power to investigate and hold government agencies accountable for their actions. By not appearing, Ojulari may be seen as undermining the authority of the National Assembly The committee has made it clear that it will not engage with representatives and insists that Ojulari must appear in person to address the 11 critical financial queries raised in the company’s audited statements. If Ojulari fails to appear, the committee may issue an arrest warrant or take other constitutional actions to compel his attendance .
The Senate Committee on Public Accounts had previously threatened to issue an arrest warrant against Ojulari if he failed to appear before the committee. The committee’s chair, Senator Wadada, emphasized that the NNPCL GCEO’s absence would trigger the use of constitutional instruments to compel compliance .
