Protesters Storm US and Swiss Embassies Over NMDPRA Corruption Allegations

A group of protesters, led by Barrister Aquila Kendo, stormed the US and Swiss Embassies in Abuja, Nigeria, to submit a petition against Farouk Ahmed, the CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). The protesters alleged that Ahmed had engaged in corruption and abuse of office, amassing significant resources for personal and family use.

The petition, signed by Barrister Aquila Kendo, national coordinator of the Concerned Young Professionals Network, called for diplomatic measures to hold Ahmed accountable for his actions. The group highlighted the devastating impact of corruption on Nigeria, stating that it has:

Denied children access to education
Left women without basic healthcare
Failed to provide benefits to retirees

The protesters alleged that Ahmed had misappropriated public funds and engaged in corrupt practices during his tenure as NMDPRA CEO. They demanded that the international community take action to hold him accountable and bring an end to the systemic corruption crisis in Nigeria.

The petition emphasized the need for citizen participation and international collaboration to combat corruption in Nigeria. The protesters urged the US and Swiss governments to take diplomatic measures to ensure that Ahmed is held accountable for his actions and that justice is served.

The protest highlights the growing concerns about corruption in Nigeria and the need for accountability and transparency in government agencies. As the international community takes notice of the allegations against Ahmed, it remains to be seen how the Nigerian government will respond to the crisis and work towards restoring public trust in its institutions.
