2025 UTME Controversy: South-East Reps Demand JAMB Registrar’s Resignation

The South-East Caucus of the 10th House of Representatives is calling for the resignation of Professor Ishaq Oloyede, Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), due to technical issues that marred the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The lawmakers also demand a complete cancellation of the examination and a new date to be fixed for the exercise nationwide.

The caucus leader, Igariwey Iduma Enwo, described the examination’s outcome as a “national shame,” citing the need for immediate suspension of key personnel handling JAMB’s digital operations and examination logistics. Despite acknowledging Oloyede’s good character, the lawmakers believe leadership must carry consequences.

The lawmakers insist that Oloyede should resign to pave the way for a thorough examination and remediation of the root causes of the controversy.
The examination should be completely cancelled, and a new date fixed for the exercise across the Immediate suspension of those handling JAMB’s digital operations and examination logistics.

Oloyede had admitted during a press briefing on May 14 that errors affected candidates’ performance during the 2025 UTME, which was held across different centers in the country. The lawmakers believe that resignation is the way to go in any civilized democracy.

The demands raise questions about the accountability and transparency of JAMB’s operations. If the demands are met, it could lead to a more robust and reliable examination process, restoring the integrity of the UTME.
