Akpabio Denies Sexual Harassment Allegations: “I’ve Never Harassed Any Woman
Nigerian Senate President Godswill Akpabio has vehemently denied allegations of sexual harassment leveled against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. In a statement made during Wednesday’s plenary session, Akpabio emphasized that he has never engaged in any form of harassment against Akpoti-Uduaghan or any other woman ¹.
Akpabio attributed his upbringing by his late single mother, who died in 2000, as the reason for his strong respect for women. He urged Nigerians to await the court’s decision on the matter, rather than rushing to conclusions.
However, the matter took a complicated turn when Senate Chief Whip Senator Mohammed Monguno raised Order 40 of the Senate Standing Orders. Monguno argued that the issue could not be entertained or referred to the Ethics Committee due to ongoing court proceedings involving Akpoti-Uduaghan and Akpabio’s wife, Mrs. Ekaette Akpabio.
The Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, aligned with Monguno’s position, further opposing the petition’s referral to the Ethics Committee. As the controversy unfolds, Akpabio remains adamant that the allegations are baseless and politically motivated
